Pianist Lara Downes, Classical California’s evening host and resident artist, is teaming up with violinist Tessa Lark for our next Classical Americana SKY Concert. Tessa is recognized as one of the most captivating musicians today, for a special program of American music. Together, they’ll take listeners on a musical journey across different genres and traditions, blending the sounds of composers like Aaron Copland, William Grant Still, Roy Harris, and Clarence Cameron White. Through their music, Lara and Tessa will weave together the rich histories of folk, bluegrass, jazz, and blues with the distinct voice of American concert music. Join us for this intimate SKY concert with conversation in the stunning 11th-floor Osher Recital Hall at KDFC’s home in the Bowes Performing Arts Center in San Francisco. Come early to meet your favorite Classical California hosts at our reception.

Tessa Lark, praised for her wide range, technical skill, and musical grace, is also an award-winning fiddler from Kentucky. She loves blending classical with Appalachian and bluegrass sounds, often inspiring composers to create new works for her. Lark’s most recent album, The Stradgrass Sessions features an all-star roster of collaborators and composers.

Lara Downes just released her latest album, This Land, on the PENTATONE label. This album dives deep into the diverse stories that have shaped American history, reflecting her ability to explore music in unique ways. It celebrates the beauty of the American experience while acknowledging its challenges, ultimately highlighting hope and humanity as a way forward.
