We are excited to announce that a generous donor has offered another, NEW, dollar-for-dollar $250,000 challenge grant to our listeners to encourage others to support our upcoming move to the Bowes Performing Arts Center. It is not too late to receive name listing on our donor wall in the lobby starting at $5,000. We invite you to join us in supporting this once-in-a-lifetime campaign for KDFC as we step into the next 10 years and beyond. Move-in is scheduled for August 2021.

Announcing the Osher Studio:
Bay Area Philanthropist Bernard Osher and his wife Barbro have made a significant gift to KDFC’s building fund. The long-time supporters of local arts and higher education around the world have added their support to KDFC’s new studio and office space build-out in the new SFCM Bowes Center.

Announcing the “Window to the Music” Building Fund:
We are excited to announce the “Window to the Music” Building Fund, a $5 million campaign to help fund the move to our new home, The Batishwa Miner Broadcast Center. The space is currently under construction in the new Bowes Performing Arts Center in San Francisco’s Civic Center and Arts District.

KDFC and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) have announced a new and unique collaboration. With the imminent opening of the William K. Bowes, Jr. Center for Performing Arts in 2020, SFCM has invited us to join them by relocating from the current broadcasting facility to the hub of the San Francisco Arts District, on the second floor of the new Bowes Center, located at 200 Van Ness Avenue, across from Davies Symphony Hall.
Why Move?
As KDFC’s current lease approaches expiration, this opportunity came at the perfect time. At KDFC, we celebrate the power of classical music to bridge differences among people and to build communities. We aspire to make a difference in Northern California as a non-profit, listener-supported public service.
Our move to this new location will give us opportunities for unprecedented access to the great artists coming to and living in our community. We’ll also have proximity to young artists who are the future of classical music.
Our new space allows us to offer concert series that showcase local young talent, and to present events that appeal to multiple generations of music fans. We will have space to create a digital hub of activity that uses technology for greater impact and expands the reach of our offerings. We will be in the center of the hive buzzing about classical music and local arts.
The new 12-story Bowes Center will be located in San Francisco’s Civic Center at 200 Van Ness Avenue. It will include two concert halls, a restaurant with a live performance space, a recording studio and technology hall, a rooftop observation deck and garden, conference facilities, multiple classrooms, a student center, student housing, and 4,000 square feet for KDFC studios and offices electronically connected to the SFCM spaces.
How We’re Building a New Home for KDFC
Moving to our new home will require resources beyond what our annual budget and successful membership program can provide. We are therefore embarking on a building fund campaign to create our new space for KDFC, for our community and for the future.
