I grew up in the Seattle area, but spent many childhood summer vacations with family in the Oakland Hills. San Francisco became my home in 1979. In 1984 I moved to Marin County, where I lived for 20 years raising my three sons. One day, after my kids were grown, I realized that it was time to shake things up in my life. So, in the fall of 2004, my partner and I bought a house in the Oakland Hills. I have come full circle. We enjoy having visitors including my sons, our families, friends and neighbors. There's been a steady stream of company all year, with no end in sight.

Everything in Oakland is familiar, yet brand new. Cooking is one of my passions, so we spend our weekend mornings exploring the farmers' markets at Lake Merritt, Jack London Square and Montclair. We've found some wonderful restaurants in Rockridge and Berkeley, and two excellent vegetarian places in Downtown Oakland, not far from my favorite market in Chinatown.

My partner is a landscape designer/installer, and our home is a gardener's paradise with a 9,000-square-foot backyard. The transformation is underway. Our two Jack Russells, Tucker and Jackie, are on constant squirrel patrol.

We built a mini library for books and music in our house. The East Bay has so many great bookstores and thrift shops that sell used hardcovers. Discovering and collecting old first editions has become one of our favorite hobbies.

I stay mentally and physically fit with yoga and weight training, and a hummingbird's metabolism. I love hiking, the ocean, the mountains in the summertime, Lake Tahoe anytime, weekend getaways in Northern California and anything Italian (I have studied the language for going on 20 years). Now that the boys are grown, we plan to travel around the world.

When I grow up, I'd like to become a yogi and an Italian language instructor in the U.S., or an English teacher in Italy. Friends are encouraging me to take the plunge and actually begin training for yoga teaching. I am also looking forward to becoming a grandfather. My boys think I'm nuts.

The best thing about working at KDFC, besides the music, is the people. It's a gem of a staff and the best radio station in San Francisco, with terrific listeners. Thank you!
