    • Classical instrumentalist and vocalists between the ages of 10-20.
    • Classical instrumentalist and vocalists, aged 21 and above.
  • Contestants must not earn the majority of their annual income as a musician, and may be asked to verify job status as condition of entry.

  • The KDFC Star Search is for classical musicians and singers; please do not submit non-acoustic music such as pop and rock. Music written in more popular styles by classical composers such as Bernstein and Gershwin is acceptable.
  • You may use an accompanist.
  • You won’t be judged on the quality of the video itself. If you feel it represents how well you play, and we can clearly hear the audio, it’s fine.
  • Once you submit the video, it becomes the property of KDFC, which then retains all rights for future usage.
  • Judges during the competition will include KDFC staff, professional musicians, music teachers, orchestra administrators, artistic directors and music company representatives.

Lang Lang
Judge & Guest Performer

The search is on for the Bay Area’s best undiscovered classical talent. It starts with your audition video – and might end with a standing ovation, and $2,500 cash, at the live Classical Star Search finals, with guest performer and judge Lang Lang.

We’re looking for non-professional classical instrumentalists or vocalists in two simple categories: ages 10-20; and 21 and over. If you’ve got the chops, prove it with a 4-minute digital video. Three finalists in each group will perform April 28 for the chance to become KDFC’s Classical Stars of 2008.

Send your video now. In April, we’ll choose 10 semi-finalists in each category, for public viewing and voting, and have them perform in a private judging on April 12th or 13th. The six finalists will be chosen from those live auditions.

Read the rules, grab the camera and get going – the deadline is March 28 at midnight!

Just for voting for your favorite Classical Star Search performer, you could win a trip to London on British Airways!
